In
Spain there is still a great amount of hundreds and thousands of years
old living olive trees which were planted during the eight centuries
of Hispano- Arabian civilization. It is basically with this wood,
with which I now can carry out my craftswork, with wood that was cut
many years ago.
The olive tree has
got a very compact root, which occasionally, when I talk about the
kind of roots that I use for my work, can be over 1000 years old and
have a volume of 4 or 5 m3.
This wood from the
root needs more than 20 years to dry, if possible in a natural way,
to be in the ideal condition to create a perfect piece of work.
I am talking about
a tree of slow growth, an essential factor for the wood to achieve
its characteristic grains and irregular shapes, which give it its
special beauty. No doubt, it is one of the most beautiful woods that
exist.
